Overview
This department was first named Speech when it was only an elective. The name was changed in 1972 to Speech and Theatre Arts and was added as a course in Field of Humanities. In 1980, it became a department in the School of Arts and Humanities. In 2005, it was renamed Speech but was a department in the College of Arts and Sciences. The dates for chairs, Kingsley and Burkhart seem to overlap with one another, but it is likely that materials created as faculty members were put in their chair folder when the records were kept by the office secretary.
