Scope and Contents

From the Record Group: The records of the College of Arts and Sciences document the college curriculum and departmental changes from 1962 when the college assumed a liberal arts program. It dates 1910-2024, bulk 1966-1980 and 2004-2019. They include minutes, newsletters, correspondence, reports, budgets, and administrative papers. The records are arranged in 27 series. Overview

The Science Department was orphaned in the 1973-1974 academic year. The materials in this small collection include lectures, meeting minutes, correspondence from the chairs of the department and an interesting document written by the first chair, Simon Shearer in 1950. In the May 21, 1968, meeting minutes, Dr. Peightel reported that the Science Department would be divided into three departments by 1969. Science education would include Physics, Biology, and Chemistry.
