This series includes 60 sub-series that contain photographs, scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, books, manuals, newsletters, magazines, clothing, textiles, charters, signs, suitcases, paddles, and ephemera related to Shippensburg University’s fraternities, sororities, honor fraternities, honor sororities, Greek functions, and some Greek chapters that are not directly related to Shippensburg University that Bob Smith collected. After World War II, male students from Shippensburg University organized, or in some cases reorganized, to form professional, service, and academic fraternities. These fraternities required members to maintain a determined GPA and have a ‘determined character’ to join. Women on campus later organized service, professional, and academic sororities. The sub-series are listed in the Scope-and-Content Note. Some materials are stored in folders or envelopes within their boxes, but most items, due to their shape, are loose in the boxes. Numbers in parentheses indicate the number of items in the folder and the number of loose items of the same type in the box. Because of the use of the collection for the Shippensburg Alumni Week Greek Exhibit, items have been listed individually for inventory management.
