 Series

Scope and Contents

From the Record Group: This collection documents the activities of the Ezra Lehman Memorial Library from the time the first official library was built in 1932. The records of the library date from 1938-2024 with the bulk of materials dated 1963-2010. The records consist of minutes, correspondence, reports, architectural plans, budgets, self-studies, and statistics. They include materials from departments within the library including those that no longer exist. Each of those departments are described in detail in each series description. The record group is divided into 16 series that include Series 1 (Administration), Series 2 (Strategic Planning), Series 3 (Library Assessment), Series 4 (Reports), Series 5 (Systems), Series 6 (General Business), Series 7 (Faculty), Series 8 (Personnel), Series 9 (Archives and Special Collections), Series 10 (Technical Services), Series 11 (Access Services), Series 12 (Media Services), Series 13 (Events), Series 14 (Committees), Series 15 (Associations), and Series 16 (New Library). The contents of each series are organized alphabetically. Most records of the library are now created and stored electronically on the library S-drive.

Overview

This series has 5 sub-series that include Sub-Series 1 (Chairs), Sub-Series 2 (Meetings), Sub-Series 3 (Instruction), Sub-Series 4 (Reference), and Sub-Series 5 (General Business). In Sub-Series 1, Folder 2 and Folder 3 are the same person. Chair terms are not always clear, but when they are, those dates are indicated on the folder. Some of the documents in chair folders have gaps in the date, so it is not always evident if the documents were created when the person was chair. Faculty meetings in Sub Series 2 are sometimes called Department Meetings and/or Library Staff Meetings depending on the date of the meeting. Librarians did not always have faculty status and worked all year round, which explains the group of minutes dated throughout the summer months. There are some instances within the minutes where the librarians refer to themselves as staff. These files hold minutes, agendas, and correspondence relating to meetings. Occasionally non-professional staff were invited to faculty meetings to share their expertise and provide information about projects. Sub-Series 4 contains meeting minutes that are incomplete because the more recent ones are in electronic format on the Library S-drive. In Sub-Series 5, Box 1, Folder 11 there is a T-shirt that was designed, purchased, and donated by Librarian, Signe Kelker as a pun about a previous director, Hector Maymi Sugranes. There are no restrictions in this series.

Arrangement
