 Record Group
Identifier: RG-015

Scope and Contents

The materials in this record group document a wide range of university business and sports. The collection is valuable to researchers because the information documents dates, people, and events that are sometimes not available anywhere else in the archives. The materials mostly consist of newspaper clippings and death records of administrators and some WWII student soldiers. An employee of the Publications Office (now University Communications & Marketing) must have been responsible to clip university news from various papers throught Dauphin, Cumberland, Frankllin, and Adams counties. This record group includes records of academic departments that have been orphaned or renamed. The documents are arranged in two series that include Series 1 (General College Business) and Series 2 (Sports).

Biographical / Historical

The Subject Files is a group of documents that are not produced by the university but contain valuable information about the university. The materials in this collection originated from a smaller "Newspaper Clippings" collection. The clippings came from Ed Sheaffer, local historian, and the Publications Office, which is now called University Communications & Marketing.

Processing Information

There were news clippings that had articles on both sides of the paper. Archive staff photocopied one side because the subjects of the articles were not always the same on both sides. There were many that had several smaller articles copied onto the same sheet of paper that were not related. These were cut apart and placed with the appropriate subject. Duplicate copies were discarded, but there are probably more that were not. Date ranges were added to the folders, but the materials within the folders were not put in exact date order to save processing time. There are folders with the same subjects whose dates overlap with one another.
