Overview

The bulk of the files contain correspondence, policies, a manual and reports. The current services promote wellness with medical care and health education. There is a list of employees that dates back as early as 1910. There is also a folder that contains newspaper clippings on the Typhoid Fever and how it affected the college in 1915. When the school was originally built, the infirmary (as it was called) was located in Old Main, which at the time was the only building. Sometime later, the infirmary was moved to its own building on campus. The Etter Health Center was built in 1976 and named after Harry Etter, who served as a physician on campus from 1925-1945. It is incorrrectly noted in a news clipping that the building was named after him because he was the first physician. The first physician on campus was Dr. Alexander Stewart, son of Dr. George Stewart (a Board of Trustee member). Dr. Stewart began his service either in 1920 or 1921. There is an interview with him done by Charles Loucks, retired history professor, located in F8b.
