 Series

Scope and Contents

From the Record Group: The records of the photograph collection span the years as early as 1873 through 2016 with the bulk from 1962-2001. The collection came primarily from the Office of Public Relations (now The Office of University Communications and Marketing) and private donations given many years prior to maintaining donor records. The collection is organized by subject, which was necessary during processing in the absence of a functional original order. The record group is divided into 8 series that suit the majority of the materials. The series include: Series 1 (Buildings/Structures/Miscellaneous), Series 2 (Class and Graduates/Students), Series 3 (Administrators/Faculty/Staff), Series 4 (Events), Series 5 (Sports), Series 6 (Student Life), Series 7 (Campus Visitors), and Series 8 (Miscellaneous). The contents in each series are arranged in alphabetical order and in some cases followed in chronological order.

The photograph collection tells a broad story about the people and events of the college, culture, and the history of the school. The pictures reveal interesting things about culture and history have long been replaced by a more modern and changed American culture. The history and growth of the school are reflected in Series 1 (Buildings/Structures/Miscellaneous) and Series 2 (Class/Graduate Students). Series 4 (Events) and Series 6 (Student Life) can help researchers uncover activities that were important to students in various eras and uncover some events and parts of culture that were once very popular but no longer exist - especially some from the 1960s-1970s.

Some photographs that are fragile have been placed in protective sleeves and can be scanned with the protective sleeve left in place to protect the photograph. The largest gap in the collection is the 21st century. This gap will continue to grow as more photographs are born digitally rather than printed. There is potential for this record group to expand to include a digital collection.
